Despite Obama’s desperate attempts to “reset” relations with Russia they never got off the ground. Now, with President-elect Trump we have a new opportunity to GET ALONG with Russia and use them to our advantage.
In his annual New Year’s message to foreign leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump. Noticeably missing from the message was any mention whatsoever of Obama. In this case, what was NOT said spoke louder than anything else.
In Putin’s message, he stated he looks forward to working together with the incoming Trump administration and he has high hopes that the U.S. and Russia can act together in a constructive and pragmatic manner. He has hopes both nations “will be able to take real steps to restore the mechanisms of bilateral cooperation in various areas and take their interaction in the international arena to a whole new level,” according to the Hill.
This message was delivered after new punishing sanctions and the expulsion of 35 Russian officials from the United States. All of those measures done in response to claims of supposed Russian interference in the 2019 presidential election. Puting chose to address incoming President-elect Trump directly in his message released from the Kremlin on Friday, laying emphasis on the importance of strong bilateral relations between Russia and the U.S. when it comes to global stability.
Putin stated –
“Major global and regional challenges that our countries have confronted in recent years clearly confirm that Russia-US relations are an important factor in ensuring stability and security in the modern world.”
He also expressed hope that after Trump is sworn in as US President on January 20, 2017, the two countries could work together –
“acting in a constructive and pragmatic manner, will be able to take real steps to restore the mechanisms of bilateral cooperation in various areas and take their interaction in the international arena to a whole new level. Major global and regional challenges that our countries have confronted in recent years clearly confirm that Russia-US relations are an important factor in ensuring stability and security in the modern world.”
What makes Putin’s omission of Obama’s mention in his message is Putin also congratulated Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Theresa May, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chinese President Xi Jinping, French President François Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, among others.
Putin even went so far as to offer greetings to former heads of state and politicians, including former US Presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi
Obama? No mention, no greeting, nothing!
In this case? Silence. It speaks volumes, especially for an egotistical, narcissistic, self- important little man such as Obama. 19 more days and counting!
