Myrtle Beach police say eight people are hospitalized after three shootings within eight hours on Ocean Blvd. All are recovering in various South Carolina hospitals after a gunman opened fire in a shooting that was broadcast on Facebook Live.

According to Lt. Joey Crosby, the local police were called to the area of 5th Ave N and Ocean Blvd. at around 12:25 a.m. due to a large crowd gathering. Just prior to their arrival, a fight broke out and one person pulled out a gun and shot the other. Lt. Crosby says an armed security officer witnessed the shooting and shot the suspect. The shooter then shot numerous rounds and escaped the scene by carjacking a vehicle.

The stolen vehicle was later found by police.  Seven people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The security officer involved was also injured and treated at the scene.  A patrol car was hit by the gunfire, but no officers were hurt.

“Multiple people down!” Bubba Hinson shouted as he live-streamed a video of what started as a mob of people that was causing traffic to back up, but turned into a mass shooting on Ocean Boulevard early Sunday morning. Some tourists say they won’t return to Myrtle Beach anytime soon.

 Here’s the full video:

“If you’re watching this, stay away from Fourth Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard,” Hinson cautioned viewers on his Facebook Live video. “There’s multiple people been shot!”

As of Sunday afternoon, the entire violent incident remained online and had not been removed.  The video went viral with over 1 million views by Sunday afternoon. A local CBS affiliate WBTV contacted Facebook for comment as to why the footage was allowed to remain.  Facebook did not respond for comment.
