CAIRO, EGYPT — Two ISIS terrorists were killed on Tuesday in exchange of fire with the police forces in Egyptian province of Wadi Al-Gaded, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Abdullah Saad, a prominent terrorist figure, who has been involved in many violence attacks, has been killed during the shootout, the statement said.

The security men tracked the terrorists who were escaping into the desert after the policemen approached their hideout, it added.

Another terrorist has been killed before detonating his explosive belt, XINHUANET reported.

Egypt has been suffering wave of anti-security operations, mainly centered in north Sinai since the army-led ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in response to mass protests against his one-year rule.

Lately, some of the attacks have crept into the capital and other cities. Hundreds of security men and dozens of civilians have been killed in attacks.

A Sinai-based extremist militant group loyal to the regional Islamic State (IS) militia claimed responsibility for most of the attacks.

Egypt has been struggling to contain an insurgency by Islamic militants led by an affiliate of the Islamic State group centered in the northern region of the Sinai peninsula, though attacks on the mainland have recently increased.

The country is currently under a state of emergency, declared by President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi since twin bombings targeted churches in the northern cities of Alexandria and Tanta on Palm Sunday killing at least 45 people. The attacks were claimed by the Islamic State group.

The restive northern Sinai has been under a state of emergency since October 2014, after Islamic militants killed more than 30 soldiers in a single attack.
