BREAKING: Reports From Russia Claim Turkish-backed Troops Just Attacked US-led Forces

As tensions mount between them, did Turkey just stab it’s ally in the back?

In a shocking report, the second of its kind, Russian outlets relaying information from intel sources on the ground in Syria that are claiming a proxy war has broken out between the United States and Turkey.

The news comes just days after a US Consulate worker in Turkey was arrested and a hours after a Wall Street Journal reporter was sentenced to prison for her reporting on Turkish troops fighting with Kurdish militants.

If the report is corroborated, a NATO ally just attacked Syrian Kurdish Rebels that were directly working with US Forces.

According to Russia’s Military Review here’s what happened:

According to the 30-year-old Syrian, those Kurds who are actually “on pay” from the US are actively campaigning in Idlib and Aleppo for “reflecting Turkish aggression.” Together with them, representatives of terrorist groups are engaged in agitation, including “An-Nusra”

It was such a delegation that visited the small town of Binnish, located a few kilometers from the city of Idlib. And this is not accidental, as there are already close combat actions between the Syrian free army led by the Turkish instructors and very strange squads consisting of Kurds and insurgents of An-Nusra, led by the US military.

Moreover, near the small town of Armanaz, the locals observed a very interesting picture: (…) those who spoke English tried to shoot a detachment of SSA and people dressed in Turkish military uniform from the windows of a former apartment house from automatic rifles and grenade launchers. But this is not all the events in this region lately: on the very border with Turkey, local residents saw a group of terrorists showing off US passports and destroying Turkish technology.

This Has Happened Before So The Report Is Not Unlikely

That’s a lot of information to parse through and since this article was translated using software, it’s a bit jumbled.  Let’s try to break it down for you:

Allegedly, two militant groups arrived at a small Syrian village known as Armanaz. One of those groups was backed by Turkish instructors and the other was backed by an American detachment.  When the two groups made contact one side began an attack on the other. No casualties have been reported or confirmed.

If this report ends up being legitimized by another nation’s reporting (various Russian sources are reporting a similar story), then this will be the second attack on Americans by the Turkish backed militants.

In August, Americans came under direct and deliberate fire:

US troops in northern Syria came under direct attack last week by Turkish-backed rebels, a military official with the coalition fighting ISIS told CNN Tuesday. The official said that while US troops returned fire there were no casualties on either side.

The coalition believes the attackers are part of the Turkish-backed opposition forces, a loose grouping of Arab and Turkmen fighters that have helped the Turkish military clear ISIS from the Turkish-Syria border area.

While we wait for more information, it is important to note that the US Command will be hesitant to relay this information to the American public directly.  Since May of 2016 we have been on a direct collision course with Turkey and our interests do not seem to be reaching any sort of alignment either.  It would not be shocking for our government to bury this story temporarily, particularly if no US troops on the ground were in immediate danger.

We will keep you updated with the latest information so be sure to check back for more info as this story develops.
