UNREAL: John Conyers Just MASSIVELY REWARDED By CONGRESS

Michigan Rep. John Conyers resigned from Congress on Tuesday amid numerous instances of sexual assault and harassment while he held office, but his “parting gift” is going to make your head explode.

Conyers, the longest-serving member of Congress to date, chose to step down from his office rather than fight the charges against him and face being removed, and now we’re learning why. Apparently, because he chose to retire early, which will guarantee an end to the ethics probe into his conduct, he gets to keep his cushy Congressional pension, and boy does it ever have some serious perks.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Conyers is set to receive over a hundred thousand dollars a year for the rest of his life. In addition to the handsome check he’ll be receiving, he also gets to keep his full Congressional healthcare benefits – the same ones Congress voted for themselves while sticking us with Obamacare.

How fouled up is this?

From the Free Press:

If he stayed with a benefit program for members who joined Congress before the mid-1980s, as most did, he could qualify for a yearly pension of as much as $139,200 —  compared with his current pay of $174,000 a year.

A quick calculation of Conyers’ pension benefit for his 53 years in office suggests he would make — between a congressional package and Social Security — more than $230,000 a year but for rules limiting a pension to no more than 80% of current pay.

If Conyers opted for a spousal benefit after his death for his wife, Monica, his yearly pension could be somewhat less — about $125,550 a year, according to Pete Sepp, president of the National Taxpayers Union, a government watchdog group.

As for health care, the Detroit Democrat will be able to maintain coverage through exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act — just as other members of Congress do — with the federal government picking up about 72% of the cost.

Worse yet, while the ethics investigation is likely going to be dropped, even if it found misconduct on his behalf he wouldn’t lose his benefits. Apparently, the Ethics Committee doesn’t have jurisdiction over retirees, and even if it did, members only lose their pensions if they are convicted of a federal crime related to corruption, espionage, treason or another national security offense.

But fear not, because not only is Conyers going to be milking us taxpayers for his pension for the rest of his miserable life, but he’s also refusing to pay back the money of ours that he used to pay off the women he assaulted.

Is this guy a real piece of human excrement, or what?

From The Hill:

Disgraced former Rep. John Conyers does not intend on paying back tax-payers for the funds he used to pay settlements for his sexual misconduct.

From The Hill: Arnold Reed, the attorney who has been representing former Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) amid his sexual misconduct scandal, said Tuesday that Conyers does not plan to pay back Congress for a past settlement because it was “cleared” by lawyers.

“No, at this juncture there’s been no discussion of that,” Reed told HLN’s Carol Costello in a contentious interview the came hours after the Michigan lawmaker announced he would retire immediately.

“Because the ethics committee is conducting an investigation and has not been determined that A, that was tax-payer money and B, they cleared any settlement that the congressman entered into, as I told you, several days ago,” he said.

Meanwhile, we’re now learning that one of the women accusing Conyers of sexual assault claims he invoked murdered federal intern Chandra Levy when she refused to sleep with him, Fox News reported.

Courtney Morse, 36, described the incident from 16 years ago to The Washington Post. She said Conyers, D-Mich., mentioned the Levy case when Morse was a college intern for him and the congressman drove her home one night.

Levy went missing in 2001. A police investigation revealed she was having an affair with married California Democratic Rep. Gary Condit.

Conyers “said he had insider information on the case. I don’t know if he meant it to be threatening, but I took it that way,” Morse told The Post. “I got out of the car and ran.”

How nice.

So an admitted sexual predator spent over 50 years milking us taxpayers dry, abused his power to force women to have sex with him, threatened their lives if they didn’t, and now gets to live high on the hog at our expense now that he’s leaving Congress on his own instead of being thrown out.

Indeed, it’s time to drain the swamp.
