BREAKING NEWS Out Of NORTH KOREA

Newsweek reports, North Korea’s nuclear weapons program continuously makes headlines, which is overshadowing the danger posed by its chemical and biological weapons, members of Congress and experts warn.

North Korea continues to claim they are not in possession of Chemical or Biological weapons and warheads.

According to the South Korean Ministry of Defense and the United States Pentagon, North Korea possibly has the world’s largest stockpile of Chemical and Biological weapons.

In 2012, the South Korean Ministry of National Defense (MND) estimated that the DPRK possesses between 2,500 and 5,000 metric tons of chemical weapons.

North Korea focuses mainly on Sarin and VX chemical weapons, it is estimated that North Korea can produce up to 12,000 tons of these deadly chemicals.

SARIN

A nerve agent, sarin causes uncontrollable nerve cell excitation and muscle contraction.  Ultimately, sarin victims suffer death by suffocation.   As with other nerve agents, sarin can cause death within minutes.  Sarin vapor is about ten times less toxic than VX vapor, but 25 times more toxic than hydrogen cyanide.  Discovered while attempting to produce more potent pesticides, sarin is the most toxic of the four G-series nerve agents developed by Germany during World War II.  Germany never used sarin during the war.  However, Iraq may have used sarin during the Iran-Iraq War, and Aum Shinrikyo is known to have used low-quality sarin during its attack on the Tokyo subway system that killed 12 people and injured hundreds.

VX

The VX molecule interferes with the way glands and muscles function by blocking an enzyme that allows them to relax. That causes muscles to clench uncontrollably and, eventually, prevents a victim from being able to breathe. The lethal dose for VX ranges from about 10 milligrams via skin contact to 25 to 30 milligrams if inhaled. Early symptoms can include pinprick pupils, runny nose, wheezing and muscle twitching. Death can occur anywhere from within a few minutes to hours, depending on the dose and the method of contact.

North Korea has created “rounds” for their artillery that are placed 90 miles from the DMZ and are manned 24/7, ready to fire at a moments notice.

Korean Demilitarized Zone

The Korean Demilitarized Zone is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula. It is established by the provisions of the Korean Armistice Agreement to serve as a buffer zone between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea. The demilitarized zone is a border barrier that divides the Korean Peninsula roughly in half. It was created by agreement between North Korea, China and the United Nations in 1953. The DMZ is 250 kilometres long, and about 4 kilometers wide.

It is estimated that over 70% of the North Korean Military are deployed 90 miles from South Korea and have over 5,000 artillery that are ready at a moments notice, to shell key populated cities in South Korea.

North Korea has postured itself so that it is a considerable enemy with the desire to cause mass casualties to the United States and it’s allies.

Many question why the United States has yet to take an offensive posture and strike North Korea fast and heavy.  The answer in appearance, is that the United States is not ready to handle the artillery that would send chemical and biological rounds into South Korea and U.S. bases in South Korea.

I tend to believe that the United States is mission ready and is taking this time to create a ROE (Rules Of Engagement) that allows U.S. forces to take out the chemical and biological facilities before North Korea can cause mass casualties.
