WAGONER COUNTY, Oklahoma – A natural gas explosion and fire in Wagoner County Thursday injured four people, three critically.

Wagoner County Emergency Manager Heath Underwood says the fourth person suffered burns from his elbows to his fingertips.

The explosion happened Thursday night as contract workers were repairing a gas line near Wagoner, about 125 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.

One worker told News On 6 reporter Annie Chang someone with Wagoner Gathering Gas Company lit a cigarette next to a drill site and fire erupted.

Underwood says three workers were critically injured and two of them were flown from the scene by air ambulance, Fox reports.

The Tulsa World reports that the gas line had been damaged by a truck earlier in the day.

Underwood says emergency responders cut off the gas line to the well and allowed the fire to burn out. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze despite high-risk wildfire conditions that sparked a grassfire in nearby Coweta.

Let that be a lesson to y’all- never light up a cigarette when you are repairing a gas line.

God Bless.
